Unima In-Person Trading Safety Guide
This is a reference translation. If there is any discrepancy between this translation and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
On Unima, items are handed over in person only.
Always put safety first.
Unima is not provided or endorsed by any university or other educational institution, and handing over items on campus is not permitted by or partnered with any university. Please check the rules set by the managers of the facilities you use yourself.
1. Choose a place where other people are around
As a rule, trade on campus.
When trading, follow your university's rules.
2. Places to avoid
As a rule, avoid the following places.
Your home
Private dormitory rooms
Hotel rooms
The other person's car
Places with few people around
Parks at night
Any other place that is out of sight of others
3. Trade during the day
Whenever possible, hand over items during daylight hours.
4. Don't give out personal information
You normally don't need your home address or dormitory room number to hand over an item.
If the other person asks for personal information that isn't needed, decline.
5. Communicate within Unima
Whenever possible, communicate about the handover date, time, place and similar within Unima.
Do not move the conversation to LINE, Instagram or similar.
6. If you feel uneasy, don't trade
If you feel uneasy or in danger because of the other person's words or behavior or the handover place, you don't have to continue with the deal.
Move to a safe place, cancel the deal if necessary, and report it to the Unima team.
7. Expensive items
Take particular care with expensive smartphones, PCs, brand-name goods and similar.
Check the model number, serial number, condition, whether it works and similar thoroughly on the spot.
8. Don't hand over cash
Don't pay cash for the item at the handover place.
Use only the in-app payment designated by Unima.
9. If there is a risk of trouble or crime
If there is a danger to life or body, violence, threats, theft or any other urgent problem, put your own safety before contacting Unima, and contact the police or other public authorities as needed.
Afterwards, report the other user from within Unima.
10. About the handover code
When a deal is formed, a 4-character handover code is shown at the top of the buyer's deal screen and chat screen.
After receiving and checking the item, the buyer should tell the seller the code right there. Don't tell the code to anyone until you have received and checked the item. Don't write it in the chat either.
If you are asked for the code before the handover, don't give it, and report it to the Unima team.
Once the buyer has checked the item, the seller should ask for the code right there and enter it. Don't leave after handing over the item until you have entered it. Your earnings are not confirmed until you enter the code.
If the buyer won't tell you the code, don't hand over the item, and report it to the Unima team.
The code is different for each deal, and only the seller of that deal can enter it. Once the deal is completed or ends, the code can no longer be used.
If you enter the code incorrectly several times in a row, you will have to wait before you can enter it again. Stay calm and check the code on the buyer's screen again.
Even if you enter the correct code, the completion message may not appear because of a poor connection or similar. The deal is not complete until the deal screen shows "Completed." Enter it again somewhere with a good signal, and if it still doesn't complete, contact the Unima team before you part ways.
